Understanding DROP
When FRS members reach normal retirement age, they may elect to participate in the Deferred Retirement Option Program. Under this program, participants effectively retire while delaying retirement.
During the DROP period, monthly FRS benefits accumulate in a DROP account while participants continue to work and earn a salary.
DROP Benefits Include:
- Continue earning your salary while retirement benefits accumulate
- Receive a lump sum at the end of your DROP period
- Maintain health insurance and other employment benefits
- Flexibility to work up to 8 years in DROP
- Guaranteed rate of return on DROP accumulation
